Out of the 32 school districts in the Rio Grande Valley, 9 districts (plus 3 charters) have dual language programs. If you are located in a district without dual language opportunities for your child, you have at least two options:
- Consider transferring your child to a nearby district that has a dual language program. Almost all of the RGV districts with dual language programs are open-enrollment, which means that they accept out-of-district transfers.
- Join RGV PUEDE, organize with other interested parents in your district, and speak to the district leadership about the possibility of starting a dual language program.
RGV PUEDE is especially interested in helping parents located in Edinburg and Brownsville organize to advocate for dual language opportunities in their districts. Now that part of UTRGV's mission is to become a bilingual, bicultural, and biliterate institution, it is especially important for Edinburg ISD and Brownsville ISD to prepare students to take full advantage of what UTRGV has to offer.
